ITF VOTE ON DAVIS CUP FORMAT

Following the vote overnight by the ITF to dramatically change the format of the Davis Cup Neale Fraser, President of the Australian Davis Cup Tennis Foundation said:

“This is a desperately sad day for all of tennis – for past and present players, for the countless thousands of passionate tennis supporters and, most of all, for the Australian tennis players of the future who will no longer have the opportunity to represent their country in front of a passionate home crowd.”

“We have been beaten by money-grabbing officials and by Johnny-come-lately billionaires with little background or knowledge of the sport, no understanding of it’s history and no acknowledgment of the importance of Davis Cup to the ongoing development of tennis.”

“We would like to acknowledge and thank Tennis Australia for voting ‘no’ to the proposal, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to stop it being adopted.”

“We will advise members and supporters of the Foundation of the details of how the new competition will work as details are made available.”

Raffle Winners and Wimbledon High Tea!

A wintery Sunday in July was perfect for more than 50 Foundation Members and guests to gather at Kooyong Tennis Club for a delectable High Tea, a Pimms (or two!) and a chance to catch up with friends and lots of tennis news.

As an added bonus we were treated to a really interesting interview with Sam Groth. Many thanks Sam!

The Tea was also where we drew the winners of our fabulous annual raffle!
Congratulations to the winners:

1st Prize of travel, accomodation and tickets to the Hopman Cup: Barbara Jones, of Millers Point, NSW

2nd Prize of two 2019 AO Quarter Final Tickets: Marli Wallace, Castlemaine Vic

Congratulations to all of the winners, and many, many thanks to all those who bought tickets.

And many thanks to Bentleigh Travel for their generous sponsorship of the first prize.
